Apple Cinnamon Scones

You will never go wrong with these delicious homemade apple and cinnamon scones. If you love apple pie, I’m sure you will go crazy over these scones because they taste like apple pies with a crunchy topping.

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE SCONES

1 large egg
¼ cup unsweetened apple sauce
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon sugar
1 medium apple
2 cups all-purpose flour (plus a small amount for dusting)
½ teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground ginger
5 tablespoons cold butter

FOR THE CINNAMON GLAZE (optional)

½ cup powdered sugar
½ teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons water

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 400 degrees.

Step 2: Wash the apples and slice them into quarters. Remove the core from each slice. With a box grater or a large-holed cheese grater, shred the apples.

Step 3: Whisk the egg, apple sauce, lemon juice, sugar, and shredded apple in a medium bowl.

Step 4: In another bowl, stir the flour, salt, baking powder, cinnamon, and ginger. Add in the butter and mix until it resembles coarse, damp sand.

Step 5: Combine the apple mixture with the flour and butter mixture. Mix just until the dough forms, making sure that there is no more dry flour on the bottom of the bowl.

Step 6: Place the dough into a lightly floured surface. Shape it into 6 to 8-inches wide with the 1.5-inch thick disc. Sprinkle more flour if needed as the dough may be a little sticky. Then, divide the disc into eight wedges.

Step 7: Use a parchment paper to line a baking sheet. Put the sliced scones on top.

Step 8: Place inside the preheated oven and bake for about 18 to 20 minutes or until the top is slightly golden brown.

Step 9: once done, remove from the oven and let the scones cool completely.

Step 10: Meanwhile, mix the powdered sugar, cinnamon, and water to make the glaze. Stir until thick paste forms and drizzle over the cooled scones. Enjoy!
