½ cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon ground paprika
1 teaspoon dry mustard
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 (12 fl oz) can caffeinate pepper-type soda (such as Dr Pepper®)
¾ cup ketchup
¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
8 slices bacon
1 large onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
¼ cup bourbon
2 (16 ounces) cans baked beans with pork
HOW TO MAKE BOURBON AND DP BAKED BEANS
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 175 degrees C or 350 degrees F.
Step 2: Combine the mustard, paprika, sugar, and cayenne powder in a medium mixing bowl until incorporated.
Step 3: Mix in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and pepper soda until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Step 4: Slice in smaller pieces the 4 pieces of bacon strips. Cook in a Dutch oven at medium heat for about 3 to 5 minutes or until crispy.
Step 5: Transfer in a medium bowl and keep the grease in the Dutch oven.
Step 6: In the same pan, saute the chopped onion and cook for about 3 to 5 minutes or until translucent. Stir in the garlic and cook for a minute more or until fragrant.
Step 7: Add in the bourbon and scrape the bits from the bottom of the pan. Stir with a spoon.
Step 8: Place the cooked bacon back in the pan and add in the baked beans and the sugar mixture. Allow to simmer for about 15 minutes or until the beans are hot and cooked through.
Step 9: Sprinkle the remaining bacon over the beans and bake in the preheated oven for about 3 hours or until the beans are soft and the sauce has thickened.
Step 10: Once done, remove from the oven and serve immediately. Enjoy!
In place of bourbon, use apple cider vinegar instead.
