Cinnamon-Sugar French Breakfast Puffs Are the Sweetest Start to Your Day

Easy and quick to make Cinnamon-Sugar French Breakfast Puffs that are quite delicious! Growing up, my mom made these for us always. She loved it when we eat the whole thing without blinking! My sister and I love these breakfast puffs so much that even now that we have a family of our own, we are still constantly making these. Moist muffins partly covered in margarine and sprinkles of cinnamon-sugar mixture. A real treat not only for the kids but for adults, too! If you like to use butter instead of margarine, it’s perfectly fine. Or if you have mini muffin tins, use that too for a more delightful presentation.

Ingredients

1 ½ c. all-purpose flour
1 ½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp nutmeg
½ c. white sugar
⅓ c. shortening
1 Egg
½ c. milk
½ c. white sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
6 tbsp margarine, melted

How to make Cinnamon-Sugar French Breakfast Puffs

Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees F or 175 degrees C.

Step 2: Ready 12 muffin cups. Grease or line with paper muffin liners.

Step 3: Place the flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg in a large bowl. Whisk to combine.

Step 4: Cream half a cup of sugar with the shortening in another bowl. Beat in the egg, then alternately stir in the flour mixture and milk, beating well until incorporated. Into the prepared muffin cups, spoon the batter. Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 20 to 25 minutes.

Step 5: In the meantime, mix half a cup of sugar and a tsp of cinnamon.

Step 6: When done, take the muffins out of the oven. Remove from the muffin pan and quickly dip the muffin tops into the melted margarine, then into the sugar/cinnamon mixture. Do this for the rest of the muffins.

Step 7: Serve warm. Enjoy!
