INGREDIENTS

8 tbsp (1 stick) butter, divided
2 large sweet onions, sliced
2 lbs ground beef
2 tbsp beef base (such as Better Than Boullion), divided
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, divided
Kosher salt and black pepper, to taste
24 slider buns
12–16 oz. Gruyere or Swiss cheese, shredded
2 tbsp sesame seeds
1 tbsp fresh thyme
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder

How to make French Onion Beef Sliders

Step 1: In a skillet, melt 2 tbsp butter over medium heat. Once the butter has melted, add the onions to the skillet, adjust the heat to medium-low, and cook the onions for about 25 to 30 minutes while stirring often until lightly caramelized. Add in a tbsp of water to the pan if the onions begin to look dry or burnt.

Step 2: Combine the ground beef with half each of the beef base and Worcestershire sauce in a large bowl, then season with salt and pepper.

Step 3: To the skillet with the onions, add the beef. Adjust the heat to medium-high and cook the beef, breaking it up and stirring the meat with the onions until the beef is brown. When done, drain the excess grease off.

Step 4: Meanwhile, ready the oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees F, then lightly grease a large baking sheet. Separate the tops and bottoms of the slider buns, then tightly fit on the baking sheet the bottom buns. Over the bottom buns, distribute the beef and onion mixture evenly, top with the Gruyere cheese, and the tent with the top buns.

Step 5: Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl with the rest of the beef base. Then, stir in the rest of the Worcestershire sauce until everything is well mixed. On top of the buns, brush the beefy butter mixture using a pastry brush and sprinkle over the sesame seeds, thyme, onion powder, and garlic powder.

Step 6: Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 20 minutes until the cheese is completely melted and the tops of the rolls are turned lightly browned.
