This is another take to our ever favourite meatloaf. This patty melt is an open-faced meatloaf sandwich with melty cheese on top. This fun, delicious meatloaf patty melt is made with flavorful ground beef on toasted buns! No wonder the kids are obsessed with this amazing patty melt. If your family loves a good meatball, it’s a guarantee that they will enjoy this meatloaf sandwich, too!

This patty melt reminds me of that old-fashioned tuna melt that I love so much. Delicious, filling, and humble toasted buns topped with meatloaf filling, then melted cheese. Enjoy this with french fries and chips for a party-like meal that the kids will dig!

4 (6”) sub rolls
1 lb lean ground beef at least 90% lean
1 ¼ c. saltine crackers
1 Egg
½ small onion minced
½ c. milk
4 tbsp ketchup plus more for topping
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
½ tsp dried thyme
½ tsp garlic powder
2 c. shredded cheddar cheese
tsp salt & pepper to taste

Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 450 degrees F. In half lengthwise, split the rolls, then place on a baking sheet and set aside.

Step 2: Place the ground beef, crushed crackers, egg, onion, milk, 4 tablespoon ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, garlic powder, and salt and pepper in a medium bowl. Mix well until combined.

Step 3: With the meat mixture, top each halved bun and evenly spread it among all the buns. Over the meat mixture, spread extra ketchup (more or less depending on your preference). Place in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 15 to 20 minutes or until the internal temperature of the meat registers 160 degrees F.

Step 4: When done, remove from the oven and top each with shredded cheese. Return to the oven and bake for another 2 to 3 minutes until the cheese has melted.
