by 247tasty

Christmas is almost here! Yeah, I know, it’s not even September but I just thought it would be cool if I share this with you today. I am so excited for you to give this a try. I made this last Christmas and it was awesome. My family loved it. My kids couldn’t get enough of it. Oh man, I can imagine Christmas already. Anyway, I hope you all like this recipe. Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS

1/2 pound chopped pecans
1/2 pound chopped walnuts
2-3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1 pound package of Phyllo dough
1-1/2 cups butter, melted
2-1/2 cups honey
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon grated lemon zest

How to make Christmas Baklava

Step 1: In a large bowl, mix the chopped pecans and walnuts. Toss with ground cinnamon and set aside.

Step 2: Spread butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Line two sheets of phyllo into the bottom part of the buttered baking dish.

Step 3: Brush plenty of melted butter on top of each phyllo.

Step 4: Sprinkle the nut mixture over about 2 to 3 tablespoons.

Step 5: Repeat this process until all the phyllo, butter, and nuts are all used up.

Step 6: Layer each with 6 layers of phyllo on top. Brush with melted butter if there’s any left.

Step 7: Cut the layers of the Baklava using a sharp knife. Slice into 3 or 4 even pieces.

Step 8: Slice a diagonal cut and make diamond shapes.

Step 9: Place inside the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees or until the color turns golden and the texture becomes crisp.

Step 10: Place a saucepan on the stove and turn the heat to medium-low. Pour the honey and bring to a boil. Add in the vanilla and lemon zest.

Step 11: Remove the baklava from the oven and let it sit on a wire rack.

Step 12: Drizzle all of the honey mixture on top of the baklava.

Step 13: Let sit to cool for at least 5 minutes.

Step 14: Serve and enjoy!
