1 teaspoon salt
4 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 teaspoon white sugar
1/2 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
3 1/2 cups bread flour, divided, or as needed
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour, or more as needed, for dusting
How to make Grandma Rita’s Soft Butter Rolls
Step 1: Pour the milk into a measuring glass cup. Pour about About 2 cups.
Step 2: Place the cup inside the microwave and heat for 1 minute or until it boils.
Step 3: Remove the milk from the microwave. Add 1/4 cup of sugar, butter, and salt. Allow it to cool to room temperature.
Step 4: In a large mixing bowl, add in 1 teaspoon of warm water and dissolve the yeast.
Step 5: Allow the yeast to soften for about 10 minutes or until it becomes foamy.
Step 6: Transfer the milk mixture into the bowl of the yeast mixture then add egg and 2 cups of bread flour.
Step 7: Use a wooden spoon to stir until the texture becomes smooth.
Step 8: Add 1/2 cup of the flour at a time until the remaining flour is all used up. Stir until the dough is formed and smooth.
Step 9: Sprinkle flour into the waxed paper and place the dough. Shape the dough onto a ball then transfer the dough into a greased large bowl.
Step 10: Cover the bowl and let it sit for 30 minutes in a warm place.
Step 11: Line with parchment paper a baking sheet. Cut the dough into three then cut each cut dough into six balls.
Step 12: Place the dough into the baking sheet and arrange them leaving about 1-inch apart from one another.
Step 13: Cover the baking sheet with the balls for another 30 minutes.
Step 14: Ready the oven and preheat to 175 degrees C or 350 degrees F.
Step 15: Place the baking sheet inside the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes or until the color turns brown.
Step 16: Remove from the oven and let it sit on a wire rack to cool for 5 minutes.
Step 17: Serve warm and enjoy!
