Old Fashioned Scalloped Potatoes Recipe

Ingredients

4 tablespoons unsalted butter
5 c. potatoes, thinly sliced
3 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon kosher salt
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 3/4 c. evaporated milk
1 tablespoon onion powder
paprika, for garnish (optional)
dash cayenne pepper

How to make Old Fashioned Scalloped Potatoes?

Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees. Ready and grease a 9 x 13-inch casserole dish. Set aside.

Step 2: Melt the butter in a small saucepan. To the melted butter, whisk in the flour. Cook for about a minute, then pour in the milk and season with salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Bring the mixture to a slow boil while stirring.

Step 3: Into the prepared casserole dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes and cover with half of the sauce. To taste, season with salt and pepper. Do the same layers with the remaining half of the sliced potatoes and sauce. Lastly, sprinkle the top with paprika.

Step 4: Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour.

Notes:

1. If desired, you can add some chopped ham to the mixture or serve the scalloped potatoes with ham.

2. Throw this potato dish in advance, cover it with a plastic bag, and freeze.

3. Before baking, remove the plastic and sprinkle some cheese on top.
