Seven Minute Frosting

by Sheryl

This is a traditional frosting that has a meringue-like texture; soft, fluffy, and white. A pretty easy frosting that only takes seven minutes to make. That’s quick, right? Very quick! This is delicious, light to the taste just like a marshmallow cream but better! A failproof frosting that has been around for ages. This luscious and thick frosting is perfect to use for cakes and cupcakes. I used it countless times, the only trick is that you have to use it instantly because it sets quickly. I have seen this recipe a lot for a seven-minute frosting on the internet but I learned it from my grandma. She has been making this as far as I can remember. And it is good! A classic meringue, marshmallow-like frosting that is super light, feathery, and holds perfect peaks. An astonishing frosting that made completely from scratch using a few simple ingredients; sugar, cold water, egg whites, cream of tartar, and vanilla extract whipped up to perfection! Another keeper recipe.

INGREDIENTS

1 1/2 cups sugar
1/3 cup cold water
2 large egg whites
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
Pinch of salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

How to make Seven Minute Frosting

Step 1: Combine the sugar, water, egg whites, cream of tartar, and salt in a medium glass bowl.

Step 2: Put a saucepan with water on a stove and let the water come to a simmer.

Step 3: In the meantime, beat the egg using an electric mixer for about 30 seconds on low. Then, set the bowl over the simmering pan of water just like a double boiler.

Step 4: Continue beating for about 7 minutes on high until the mixture is stiff and glossy.

Step 5: Remove the bowl from the heat and add in the vanilla. Beat for another 1 to 2 minutes.

Step 6: The frosting will quickly set, so use it immediately.
