The best side I can never get tired of eating! Fried cabbage with mushrooms, onions, and yes, bacon! A plain simple 5-ingredient dish that comes together pretty quickly. All the exciting flavours, textures that just cracks in your mouth in every bite!

I have a super picky eater at home, and it’s always a struggle to make her eat vegetables or anything healthy. I almost give up, until I came across this recipe. Yes, it is fattening, it has bacon, but all that is worth it! Although, I suggest cutting back on the bacon a bit to hit the right balance. That first bite changed everything! She’s hooked! Cabbage has many amazing health benefits and the mushrooms, too. Despite the bacon and the bacon drippings, this has balanced the nutrition and greases. The easy and delicious side that goes alongside anything!

Ingredients

1 pound bacon
1 large head cabbage, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
1 (8 ounces) package sliced fresh mushrooms
salt and ground black pepper to taste

How to make Southern Fried Cabbage with Bacon, Mushrooms, and Onions

Step 1: In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium-high heat for about 10 minutes, turning hardly until evenly browned.

Step 2: Once done, transfer the cooked bacon on paper towels to drain excess oil. Allow to cool, then, crumble. Leaving behind 3 tbsp of bacon drippings in the skillet.

Step 3: In the same skillet, cook and stir the cabbage, onion, and mushrooms for about 20 minutes or until tender and a bit browned. Add the bacon back into the pan and season with salt and pepper.
